Parable of Two Debtors
40 And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he replied, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 “When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” 44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 “You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. 46 “You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. 47 “For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 Then He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.” 49 Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this man who even forgives sins?” 50 And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

...and begins anew. Just before my long road home, I sat on the floor and finished Graham Greene's The End of the Affair, instead of studying for Taxation law. Click here to read the Googlebook version. It was adapted into film in 1955 and 1999, which I watched on the behest of a beloved teacher. Maybe you should read it, too, so you would understand why things are as they are. I know I'm nothing like Julianne Moore (Sarah Miles), nor have I met anyone remotely like Ralph Fiennes (Maurice Bendrix), *sigh* but I can relate to Sarah's promises to God and her spiritual battles. I believe in the saving power of His miracles and love that overcomes wartime death. I'm certain, my commitment to God is greater than any other sullen stranger, secret vice, or attraction to danger. Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22: 37-40
Amen.

May the Holy Spirit guide and bless you and your family this Christmas and always! May you step out of the darkness and let His star lead the way for a more Christ-centered 2008.
"Art and faith are truly revolutionary, if by revolution we mean a great upheaval, a radical transformation that changes lives and the course of history toward truth and freedom." -Julie Lluch, as interviewed by Thelma Kintanar, "Self Portraits", ADMU Press, 1999

BETROTHED IN THE NEW MILLENIUM by Chiquit Torrente
Read: Genesis 24: 1-9, 62-67 Apparently
arranged marriages still exist today. The daughter of my mom’s best
friend [Note: Vida's Sister, Santanina] was being pestered…er, courted by a Muslim guy. He wouldn’t take
no for an answer. So she said her mother had betrothed her to someone
else. He backed off. In
some parts of the world arranged marriages are still the norm. My mom’s
best friend [my mom, Fatima], who is half-Muslim by blood, says that in the Muslim
culture arranged marriages have happier endings, because when parents
choose their offspring’s life partner, the whole family—both sides of
in-laws—is committed to making the marriage work. In
many ways Isaac and Rebekah’s marriage had been arranged. Abraham set
the requirements; his servant went out to find the girl without Isaac’s
input. God sent the right girl, identified her for Abraham’s servant,
and moved her family to give their consent. While ultimately it was
Rebekah who made the step of faith to go with Abraham’s servant and be
wed to Isaac, and it was the obedient Isaac who patiently awaited his
father’s choice of a bride and married her, God had definitely arranged
this marriage. And as the last verses of Genesis 24 narrate, as well as
succeeding chapters, Issac and Rebekah did have a loving and lasting
marriage. Do
you believe God is Sovereign? He created all; He controls the whole
universe. Do you believe God has a plan and purpose for you? He is
preparing someone very special just for you. When you step back and
give God the control seat, it also applies to the romance department.
So get ready for that arranged marriage, and trust that God only has
the best in store for you. THINK ABOUT IT: Has your earthly parent ever set you up on a date? How did it turn out?
